Kicking off the new year with continued progress
Last week, on the final Wastewater Wednesday of 2024, we reflected on the significant progress of the FPUA sewer treatment plant on Energy Lane. Despite weather challenges and minor delays, construction is on schedule and within budget, with 50% of the work completed and most structures finished. We look forward to commissioning the plant in December 2025. We're also grateful for the support of local, state, and federal representatives, including crucial grant funding from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Resilient Florida program.
This week we’re excited to share new updates as we kick off the year with continued progress. Inside the O&M building, the framing of the walls is progressing rapidly, and we now have the second-floor access staircase installed, which marks a significant step forward in the building's structural development. From an aerial perspective, we have captured images of the blower building, where the footer work has been completed, and preparations are underway for the foundation pour, bringing us closer to the next phase of construction. Additionally, the Nereda basins, which are a key component of the plant, are currently in the concrete finishing phase, with the surface work being completed before the installation of specialized equipment. These updates reflect the steady and exciting progress we are making as we continue to build towards the successful completion of this critical infrastructure project for Fort Pierce and the Indian River Lagoon.
As always, we’d like to thank all of our partners, contractors, vendors, and crews who are helping us deliver this important project to our customers! FPUA is grateful for this project with industry leaders Globaltech, Inc., Haskell and Hazen, the site designers and build team; TLC Diversified, Inc., re-routing the conveyance system to redirect wastewater flows away from the Indian River Lagoon; Kimley-Horn, the conveyance system designers, and the sub-contractors working so hard to keep this project safe and on schedule.
We are also thankful for the partnership with the City of Fort Pierce in this infrastructure improvement effort that will benefit the Fort Pierce community for generations.
