New photos: aftermath of Hurricane Milton

NEW UPDATE PHOTOS: Wastewater Wednesdays

Last week, Wastewater Wednesdays was paused while the entire community braced for Hurricane Milton and its devastating impact that many of our community members are still feeling today. Our thoughts remain with our community at this time.

Some of this week’s photos are a unique look at a storm-drenched construction zone, which was evacuated on October 8th due to Hurricane Milton. Prior to evacuating to return to their families, crews conducted storm preparation which included wrapping and anchoring loose materials, turning on dewatering pumps, and picking up debris to eliminate risk from the construction zone. The crews returned to the site on October 12th to add fuel to the dewatering pumps, and then again on October 14th, to begin work again, which included navigating flooded zones and cleaning up in the wake of Hurricane Milton.

We also share some photos of the progress that our incredible crews were able to make over the last two weeks, despite the weather. Progress includes installation of rebar for the Equalization Tank slab, which was poured today, grinding the AquaNereda Basin exterior concrete seam joints, and installing the wellhead piping at our two deep injection wells. The team also prepared 36” yard piping in anticipation of a pressure test that will be done in the coming weeks.

FPUA is grateful for this project with industry leaders Globaltech, Inc., Haskell and Hazen, the site designers and build team; TLC Diversified, Inc., re-routing the conveyance system to redirect wastewater flows away from the Indian River Lagoon; Kimley-Horn, the conveyance system designers, and the sub-contractors working so hard to keep this project safe and on schedule.

We are also thankful for the partnership with the City of Fort Pierce in this infrastructure improvement effort that will benefit the Fort Pierce community for generations.
