Milestone reached: treatment facility is 25% complete!
Last week, we shared about pouring the Nereda basin walls, putting the finishing touches on the reclaim storage tank and preparing for the leak-test. These are milestone accomplishments marking 25 percent completion of the new Mainland Wastewater Treatment Facility.
This week, crews are wrapping up the exterior walls and the interior of the Aqua Nereda basins. Slab framing of the chlorine contact chamber is taking shape to prepare for concrete pours later this week. Crews have made big strides plumbing in the underground pipe network that will connect the future tanks and equipment. A large portion of the process pipe, and the Treasure Coast Energy Center reuse feedline, have been installed.
This week we are also excited to introduce the second major effort of relocating this treatment plant, which is to re-direct the underground piping and conveyance system so that wastewater flows to the new plant. This portion of the relocation project is highly involved and will require work throughout the entire wastewater service area. For the last year, crews have worked behind the scenes to prepare our Conveyance Strategy, ultimately determining that the system will be re-routed in three phases over the next several years. This week, the crews conducted a site survey for Phase 1a, which is scheduled to be complete in December 2025 and will start delivering 5.7 MGD to the new treatment plant.
FPUA is grateful for this project with industry leaders Globaltech, Inc.; Haskell and Hazen, the site designers; TLC Diversified, Inc., constructing the Systematic Wastewater Conveyance Redirection project re-routing flows away from the Indian River Lagoon; Kimley-Horn, the conveyance system designers, and the sub-contractors working so hard to keep this project on schedule. We are also thankful for the partnership with the City of Fort Pierce and St. Lucie County in this infrastructure improvement effort that will benefit the Fort Pierce community for generations.
