FPUA’s Citizen-Led Utility Advisory Committee to Host Public Meeting

Last week, we shared updates about the reclaim storage tank, Nereda tank pipe wall-portals, and Nereda tank concrete pillars.

This week, FPUA’s Citizen-Led Utility Advisory Committee is hosting a public meeting: “Updates: Relocating FPUA’s Sewer Treatment Plant” that will be presented by the FPUA Director of Water and Wastewater Systems Bo Hutchinson, FPUA Operations Supervisor of Water Reclamation Mike Martin, and FPUA Supervising Engineer of Water and Wastewater Lugey Dawson. Planning for relocating the treatment plant has been ongoing over the last 20 years which makes this UAC progress update especially rewarding.

Lugey is the project manager for the Wastewater Conveyance System Redirection that will redirect 4.5 MGD of wastewater flows to the new plant, and away from the Indian River Lagoon, while Mike oversees the build team and network of contractors and subcontractors building the New Mainland Wastewater Reclamation Facility. As Director, Bo is the quarterback guiding the team, managing stakeholder relationships, and facilitating parallel efforts to turn this 20-year vision into reality.

Relocating the Island Wastewater Treatment Plant is the largest single project in FPUA’s history. The FPUA Team will provide an overview of the economic and environmental benefits of relocating the Island Wastewater Reclamation Facility, an update on Grants awarded for this monumental effort and project milestones.

FPUA is grateful for this project with industry leaders Globaltech, Inc. and Haskell, and Hazen, the site designers; and the sub-contractors working so hard to keep this project on schedule. We are also thankful for the partnership with the City of Fort Pierce and St. Lucie County in this infrastructure improvement effort that will benefit the Fort Pierce community well into the next century.
