The reclaim tank’s pre-stressing process begins

NEW UPDATE PHOTOS: Wastewater Wednesdays!

Last week, we shared progress updates on completing the reclaim storage tank of the new Mainland Wastewater Reclamation Facility (MWRF), pre-stressing the tank walls, framing the AquaNereda basin walls, and roughing in electrical and conduit work for the facility.

This week’s photos show that crews have completed the reclaim tank’s pre-stressing process and are hard at work spraying the final coats of concrete to finish off the structural phase of its construction. Soon, crews will break down the internal scaffolding, coat the interior, and leak test the reclaim tank before demobilization.

The Nereda tank’s wall framing and concrete work is progressing, which is projected to be completed by the end of July. Construction has also begun on the operations and maintenance building – we’re excavating the footers and foundation framing for the slabs on both structures before moving on to the vertical wall framing and concrete/masonry work.

Along with these buildings, we are making progress on the Chlorine Contact Chambers. The Chlorine Contact Chambers are the final (and important!)step in the effluent treatment process. These chambers inject liquid chlorine into the waste stream to disinfect and remove 99% of all pathogens and viral components in the final effluent. This produces safe, clean reuse water that meets state and federal reuse water quality standards. This process is critical to mitigate algae buildup inside downstream equipment and piping, which serves to protect our health, environment and resource efficiency.

FPUA is grateful for this joint venture construction project with industry leaders Globaltech, Inc. and Haskell, and Hazen, the site designers; and the sub-contractors working so hard to keep this project on schedule. We are also thankful for the partnership with the City of Fort Pierce and St. Lucie County in this infrastructure improvement effort that will benefit the Fort Pierce community well into the next century.
